School Compact

A School-Parent Compact is a written agreement between the school, parents/families, and students that explains how everyone will work together to support student learning and academic success.

For a Title I school, the compact is an important part of the school’s family engagement requirements. It outlines shared responsibilities and expectations for creating a strong learning environment.

A School-Parent Compact typically includes:

• School responsibilities – What the school will do to provide high-quality instruction, support student achievement, communicate with families, and create a positive learning environment.
• Parent/family responsibilities – How families can support learning at home, communicate with teachers, attend conferences/events, and encourage good attendance and behavior.
• Student responsibilities – Expectations for students, such as completing assignments, participating in class, being respectful, and taking responsibility for their learning.
• Communication – How the school and families will communicate about student progress and opportunities for involvement.
• Shared goals – A commitment from everyone to work together to improve student achievement.
